After you finish your plan and all the stakeholders agree upon this one, you are supposed to take
the snapshot of the project, that could be named the initial planning baseline.
After the project has started, each upgrade could require the creation of a new baseline, this can
be useful to back up the project before each upgrade or to be able to compare your current plan
with other plans like the initial one and mid-term plans.
Primavera allows you to create as many baselines as you wish, and also allows you to assign up
to four baselines at the same time.

So, let’s make an easy exercise about creating a layout to see 3 different baselines at the same time:

ASSUMPTIONS:

  • You have a project plan that looks like this at the beginning of the project:

  • After the 1st update (let’s say 2 weeks after the project planned start, and the project goes as the original plan):

  • After the 2nd update (let’s say 1 month after the project planned start and is delayed now):

  • And you have a Baseline for each of these moments in time.

GOAL:
To have a layout in order to see the 3 baselines in the same view. In order to do that, you will need to go to the Bars option in the Gantt Chart:
  • Right Click on the Gantt Chart>Bars
  • Select Project Baseline Bar, Primavera Baseline Bar and Secondary Baseline Bar in the Display column
  • Click on Apply and Ok
  • The final result will be something like this:

If we delay the project:
