Activity Network grouped by critical path
While checking the logic of your project, you may want to see it as a network diagram, and more importantly, checking out the critical path according to this very same diagram.
If we want to do this in Primavera P6 Professional, we can follow these steps:
Open your project in the application. Right-click one of them and choose “open project”.
Go to the Activities window. Select View>Show on Top>Activity Network
This will prompt the network for your whole project. By default, Primavera does this grouping by WBS (Work Breakdown Structure), like in the example below.
We can call this picture: our initial status
In order to check the network by critical path, it is necessary to do at least one Advanced Schedule with the “Calculate multiple float paths” option activated, so you just need to go to Tools>Schedule>Advanced Options and select the “Calculate Multiple float Paths” option. Click close once and then schedule.
After this, you will be able to group and sort the network. Right-click on it, and select “Group and Sort...”
Select Float path, as in the below image. Click ok.
This will be the expected result:
This picture represents a network where the first row indicates the first path, the second row, the second path, and so on. The color red represents the critical path of the project.
Primavera allows you to select different WBS on the left side of the window in order to see quickly the activities in the network related to that WBS:
